Bag closing

Some bag closing ideas.

OK – by the time you have hand made (or mixer made) a few batches you may need a breather. So bag closing is the time to smell the roses abit. Slow down baby… finish the project then burn out…

Hard fencing wire being used to tie bags. Works well on single earth filled bags. Note use of bolt cutters to cut an angle in the next piece of wire.

Fold over (use pliers) and tuck into bag – if you like. I don’t bother. The wire is galvanized and long thin nails may also be used.
You will soon find out that cheap wire is what it is…

Or you can simply stitch along the two edges and one at the apex.. good grief..

This is my preferred method for double bagged concrete filled bags.
They are harder to close than the others. Note how stuffed full the bags are.

As long as you have the same fill quantity the bags should lay nice and level?
Yes. They do. Filling  the buckets to the same level ensures this in practice.
Galvanized buckets lasted the duration of the projects whilst plastic ones
were quickly broken.

Moving on to the two more general closing methods we use for the bulk of closing bags.

The following clips illustrate the two most common closing methods.
Keep the needles sharp. Always keep thread in the needles to make them more visible when you put them down. Using colored twine helps too!

I later discovered that Duct tape was much quicker to close bags with. The bags are laid end on end and do not separate when tamped. Nice one this …
